Examining Quotes

Quotes are small pieces of life advice or sometimes even small poetry. In this lesson we are going to learn to examine or interpret these quotes. This will be better prepare us to understand larger bodies of poetry.

Quotes:

“A heart is a heavy burden.” – Howl’s Moving Castle

“From my rotting body flowers shall grow and I am in them and that is eternity.” -Edvard Munch

“When I let go of what I am I become what I might be.” -Lao Tzu

“Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times if only one remembers to turn on the light.”-Harry Potter.

“Those who know do not speak. Those who speak do not know.”-Lao Tzu

Look at each of these quotes. What do they make you feel? Good, bad, upset, happy? Do these quotes try to teach a lesson or make you feel a certain way? Do you agree with them? Why or why not? Which one is your favorite or least favorite?
