Advanced English 1&2: Examining Quotes. Monday, April 13th.

Quotes, or verses, are basically small pieces of life advice or sometimes even small poetry. In this lesson, we are going to take apart and interpret these quotes to better prepare us to understand larger bodies of poetry.

Quotes
“We don’t make mistakes, only happy little accidents.” – Bob Ross

“Doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will.” -Suzy Kassem

“In three words I can sum up everything I’ve learned about life: it goes on." -Robert Frost.

Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times if only one remembers to turn on the light.” -Harry Potter.

“It does not matter how slow you go as long as you do not stop.”-Confucius

Examine each of these quotes. How do they make you feel? What is the meaning behind them? Do they try to teach a lesson or make you think a certain way? Which do you agree or not agree with? Which of these quotes is your favorites? Which do you not like? Think about these questions as you look at these quotes.

Assignment
  1. Take your favorite quote and draw what you think it means in your notebooks.
  2. Answer this question: If you had one piece of advice to give to someone, what would it be? Try to keep it 1 to 2 sentences. Explain in 3 sentences why you think this piece of advice is important.

We will go over this homework together as a class in our next Zoom call. If you have any questions or need help, please send me an email or ask in our whatsapp group.

Zoom Classes will be on Fridays at 12PM. The ID is: 108-637-564
